How we score

How we score the reasoning test

Your result shows your six skills side by side, so you can see which ones carry you. That needs no one else to compare you with. Here is how it works, and what it can't tell you yet.

Your six skills are the result

For each skill we count how many questions you got right, out of that skill's questions, and line your skills up against each other. "Deduction is your strongest skill and spatial thinking your weakest" is a fact about you, measured directly. That's the heart of the report, and it's the part you can trust most.

Six skills, counted equally

Each skill gets its own score. A high total built on five strong skills and one weak one tells a different story from an even spread, and your report shows you both.

Where the questions come from

Six of the twelve Patterns questions come from the Open Matrices Item Bank, a published set of pattern puzzles. Researchers measured how hard each one is on 2,561 people who applied to German medical schools. Those six let us say how your pattern reasoning compares with puzzles of known difficulty, and they're the start of the comparison group we're building. The rest of the questions we wrote by hand, and we check how hard they are against those six.

Timed on purpose

One 30-minute clock covers all 60 questions, so you decide how to spend your time. How quickly you reason is part of what we measure. But no question has its own timer, so you're never pushed off one, and you can go back and change an answer.

Every question has a clear answer

No trick questions and nothing left open to opinion. Each figure, sequence and analogy is built from a clear rule, and your report shows you the rule for every question you missed.

What we can't tell you yet

How you compare with other people, or an IQ-style score. Both need a comparison group that looks like the general public. We're building one from people who take our tests. Until it's big enough, your report shows what you got right in each skill and the shape that makes, not a number pretending to rank you among strangers. When the group is ready, we'll add the comparison to your existing results for free.

A comparison with people your age. We don't ask your age here, so we can't. The personality profile does ask, and compares you with 619,150 people your age and sex who took the same questionnaire online. They chose to take it, so they aren't a random slice of the public, and that report says so.

What this is not

It's not a clinical assessment, and it can't stand in for one. It won't diagnose anything, and it shouldn't be used for hiring, admissions or any decision about another person. It's a well-built reasoning test, taken wherever and however you choose.
